SOUTHERN YOUTH ASSEMBLY OF NIGERIA (SYAN)

The Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SYAN) is a growing network of young peace builders,activists and leaders in seventeen (17) states of southern region which comprises the South West,South South and South East zones. It runs a legislative system of government with conglomeration of honourable members representing their various senatorial districts in the region. SYAN is a parliamentary youth organization meant to provide youth leaders with avenue to learn the art and pattern of law making and also support, and present pro youth policies in the National Assembly and the State Houses of Assembly.

SYAN has been in the vanguard of campaigning for equity, justice and good governance, free and qualitative education in southern region and Nigeria at large. SYAN is an affiliate of the International Youth Parliament (IYP), African Youth Parliament (AYP), Nigeria Youth Parliament (NYP), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and other International Youth Organizations. The activities of SYAN are carried out within the framework of it's constitution. These among others are: to protect the interest of youths, particularly within the southern region and contributing to the development of the region, to build a peaceful, equitable and sustainable region and country, to groom future National and International legislative icons as well as parliamentarians, to educate/orientate the youths on existing federal and states laws, to organize seminars, workshops, training, skill acquisition and youth investment/empowerment.

BRIEF HISTORY OF SYAN

The Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SYAN) was established on Wednesday 13th July 2016 to protect the interest of youths, particularly within the southern region and contributing to the progress of the region.

The 1st assembly congress held on Saturday 17th September 2016 at Baden Baden Event Hall, Benin City, Edo State and Rt. Hon. Armstrong Ovie Afabor emerged as Pioneer National Speaker of the organization. The 1st inauguration of the assembly held on Saturday 26th November 2016 at Queens Suites Hall, Awka, Anambra State.

The 2nd congress of the assembly held on Saturday 20th March 2021 at Autography Hall, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and Rt Hon. Jonathan Olusegun Adekunle emerged as National Speaker of the organization. The 2nd assembly inauguration held on Thursday 19th August 2021 at Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Conference Hall, Leme, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

MISSION/VISION

We are a devoted team of youthful southern activists committed to building a peaceful equitable and sustainable southern region and Nigeria as a whole.

Through the Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria, we seek to build on our past challenges and triumphs as a region, with our sight firmly set in the future. The cumulative energies of Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria in stirring positive action in the local governments, senatorial districts and states within the region is a key ingredient in making the future of the region and prosperous.

The Southern Youth Assembly of Nigeria is all about action, and through it, opportunity is afforded to youthful southern activists to presents ideas and formidable individual and collective action strategies that will address the youth challenges and other problems in the region and Nigeria at large.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

I. To defend the unity of our dear county

II. To assist our Nigerian government in upholding the honor and glory of Nigeria

III. To work towards the sustainability and integration of Nigerians federalism and democracy

IV. To protect the interest of youths, particularly within the southern region and contributing to the development of the region

V. To build a peaceful, equitable and sustainable region and country

VI. To organize seminars, workshops, training, skill acquisition and youth investment/empowerment

VII. To educate/orientate the youths on existing federal and states laws

VIII. To groom future National/International legislative icons and parliamentarians

IX. To serve as a formidable voice to attract government's attention on youths

X. To promote the Nigerian culture

XI. To promote the relationship amongst youth in all other ethnic group

XIII. To trigger as a catalyst via the flow of democratic dividends in the Nigeria polity
